Director, Cyber Defense

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Lead and develop a high-performing Cyber Defense organization that provides detection, response, and security engineering capabilities.

• Implement the cyber defense strategy, converting enterprise objectives into actionable roadmaps and quantifiable results.

• Manage incident response operations and act as incident commander during significant cybersecurity events.

• Foster continuous improvement in detection capabilities, response times, and minimizing business impact from security incidents.

• Direct security engineering initiatives across on-premises, cloud (IaaS), and SaaS environments, including the strategy for security tools and their integration.

• Guarantee effective onboarding and utilization of security telemetry within SIEM and analytics platforms.

• Convey information about risks, incidents, and program performance to both technical teams and executive stakeholders.

• Establish and report on program metrics, operational health, and key performance indicators.

• Report directly to the Senior Director of Cyber Defense.

• Assist global operations through on-call rotations.

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 7 years of experience in leading or managing technical teams in cyber defense, security operations, or security engineering.

• 2 to 3 years of experience in leading and managing managers.

• Strong expertise in incident response, detection, and cybersecurity operations.

• Proven track record in managing high-severity incidents and crisis response.

• Ability to effectively communicate complex technical subjects to non-technical and executive audiences.

• Demonstrated capability to influence and manage senior stakeholders, navigate difficult conversations, and achieve alignment across competing priorities.

• Experience leading distributed or globally located teams.

• All candidates must be authorized to work in the US.

• Hands-on experience with SIEM, EDR, SOAR, and security analytics platforms.

• Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS and Azure.

• Experience with Agile or contemporary delivery and operating models.

• Understanding of privacy, regulatory, and compliance factors influencing cyber defense.

• Willingness to have flexible working hours and participate in on-call rotations to support global operations.

• Integrity, trustworthiness, and ethical behavior are essential requirements.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
