Director, AI Architecture – B2C

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Design and develop AI IT systems that integrate business processes, customer interactions, applications, data, machine learning models, generative AI, and technology platforms.

• Lead the planning, assessment, and enhancement of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation capabilities.

• Ensure a cohesive AI architecture across technology systems, data platforms, cloud and on-premises environments, and customer-facing digital interfaces.

• Create and oversee AI architecture blueprints, standards, reference architectures, and governance frameworks.

• Formulate technical design recommendations for the integration of AI, machine learning, generative AI, intelligent automation, and AI platform capabilities into products, services, and applications.

• Identify and address risks related to AI solutions, model performance, ethical AI considerations, security, compliance, and design.

• Establish and advocate for Responsible AI practices, encompassing fairness, transparency, explainability, privacy, security, guardrails, observability, evaluations, model governance, and regulatory compliance.

• Attract, retain, mentor, acknowledge, and nurture talent in AI architecture.

• Direct AI architecture and transformation strategies across various business units.

• Advise technical teams to optimize AI-enabled solutions for strategic, operational, secure, and cost-effective outcomes.

• Participate in system specification reviews to ensure scalable, explainable, secure, and sustainable architecture designs.

• Research technologies, conduct proofs of concept and prototypes, and recommend foundational models, LLM platforms, AI agents, AI tools, and LLMOps/AIFinOps capabilities.

• Deliver AI-powered solutions that enhance customer experience, personalization, engagement, and operational efficiency.

• Provide architectural insights for business cases, including feasibility, risks, AI value realization, guardrails, evaluations, observability, scalability, and Responsible AI.

• Lead enterprise-wide initiatives that integrate data, analytics, AI platforms, machine learning, and customer-facing technologies.

• Serve as a senior AI architect and strategic advisor across BMO.

• Collaborate with product management, AI engineering, risk, compliance, legal, customer experience teams, AI vendors, and cloud providers.

• Clearly communicate complex AI concepts, business value, technical trade-offs, model risks, and governance requirements.

• Anticipate trends in AI and customer expectations to foster innovation and maintain competitive advantage.

• Apply BMO’s Risk Management Framework, Risk Culture, Risk Appetite, AI governance standards, model risk management, privacy regulations, cybersecurity controls, and Responsible AI principles.

• Typically requires 9+ years of relevant experience.

• Post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Expertise with AWS and Azure AI services and cloud architecture.

• Expertise with AWS IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, Microsoft Entra ID, Key Vault, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Purview, and Azure Policy.

• Expertise in LLM architecture and deployment, prompt engineering, RAG, vector databases, AI orchestration frameworks, agentic AI design patterns, multi-agent architecture, fine-tuning, model customization, and evaluations.

• Expertise with CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform, ARM Templates, and Bicep.
