This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Direct the operations team of SURJ’s Development Department, overseeing team management, grants administration, staff supervision, planning, system coordination, data management, and financial-impact reporting.
• Ensure revenue forecasts and monthly fundraising cash-flow updates are maintained.
• Collaborate closely with Finance to keep SURJ informed about its financial standing.
• Work with the Grants Manager and represent SURJ in interactions with institutional funders and family foundations.
• Manage a select donor portfolio with an annual fundraising target set for each fiscal year.
• Create the annual development plan and income forecasts together with the Director of Development and Donor Organizing.
• Oversee the preparation of grant applications and reports, develop work plans, monitor progress, and assist staff in fundraising efforts.
• Supervise three or more development team members and contracted development support.
• Conduct weekly supervision sessions and facilitate meetings for the Development Operations Team.
• Maintain annual and quarterly work plans and assist staff in meeting quarterly objectives.
• Design and lead two annual in-person meetings for the Development Operations Team.
• Foster team coordination, cohesion, hiring, onboarding, and workflow development.
• Establish collaborative structures between Operations and the wider Development Team.
• Coordinate the annual grants and foundations calendar.
• Implement daily data and financial management practices, enhancing data systems and reporting capabilities.
• Review quarterly projections against actual performance to ensure the accuracy of donor data.
• Act as the development liaison with communications, finance, and national organizing leadership.
• Represent development in cross-team meetings and support fundraising initiatives across departments.
• Ensure grant deadlines are met, including proposal/report drafting, reviews, edits, and final approvals.
• Assist in foundation prospecting and regularly review the portfolio with the Grants Manager.
• Ensure grant data and files are accurately maintained in EveryAction and shared drives.
• Over 10 years of experience in supervising individuals and teams.
• More than 5 years of proven leadership in development and fundraising.
• Familiarity with CRM database systems, including EveryAction, as well as complex spreadsheets.
• Experience in working with and supervising a diverse range of individuals, from volunteers to Board members to donors.
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with accommodations available as per federal, state, and local laws.
• Experience in building donor relationships and communication across various class identities.

• Capability to represent development and SURJ in both internal and external meetings.

• Experience in designing and implementing facilitation processes.
