Department Chair – Nursing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Provide guidance to ensure a high-quality learning experience while maintaining coherence and relevance in nursing disciplines.

• Foster student learning outcomes, program quality, integrity of the discipline, faculty development, success, belonging, and retention.

• Collaborate effectively with academic, operational, cross-functional departments, and external stakeholders.

• Oversee the daily operations of one or more programs and manage faculty.

• Communicate department goals and requirements both within and outside the institution.

• Develop, assess, and evaluate student learning outcomes, instructional effectiveness, persistence, and retention.

• Participate actively in strategic planning and budget management.

• Manage processes related to student conduct, appeals, and grievances.

• Recruit, develop, support, and evaluate faculty members.

• Document faculty accomplishments and advancements in teaching, research, curriculum management, and service.

• Acknowledge exceptional faculty and colleague performance.

• Assign courses and credential faculty for teaching responsibilities.

• Delegate curriculum development tasks to full-time faculty members.

• Maintain regular communication with faculty and convene faculty meetings.

• Ensure the continuity, currency, and relevance of the discipline and program.

• Drive curriculum innovation, uphold academic rigor, and promote teaching excellence.

• Exhibit teaching excellence and share effective teaching practices.

• Mentor and develop others while managing competing priorities and challenging discussions.


⛳️ Requirements

• Doctoral degree in nursing or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.

• Minimum of five years of nursing experience.

• At least five years of teaching experience.

• Experience in academic management and leadership roles.

• Experience in online teaching environments.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

• Experience with nursing specialty accreditation is highly preferred.

• Submit a CV along with unofficial transcripts, including master’s degree and above.

• Full-time faculty members and department chairs are expected to consider APU/AMU as their primary employer.

• Full-time salaried faculty and department chairs are not permitted to be full-time employees of another university, school, college, or higher education institution.
