Database Engineer – Oracle, Cloud Platforms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Administer, maintain, and provide support for production Oracle databases, which includes configuration management, patching, upgrades, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.

• Act as a senior escalation point for intricate Oracle database incidents and operational issues.

• Support and manage database workloads hosted on Microsoft Azure, Tessell, and other cloud or managed database platforms.

• Engage in database modernization projects, migrations, and cloud adoption strategies.

• Design, implement, and maintain automation solutions utilizing scripting, APIs, configuration management, and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.

• Diagnose issues across database, infrastructure, application, cloud, and security domains in collaboration with cross-functional technical teams.

• Provide support for PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and other database technologies as operational needs develop.

• Create and sustain technical documentation, operational procedures, automation artifacts, and knowledge transfer materials.

• Execute work in accordance with Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, vulnerability remediation, security compliance, and DevSecOps practices.

• Support high-availability, mission-critical production environments that necessitate dependable 24x7 operations.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, service reliability, automation, and customer satisfaction.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree; an additional FOUR (4) years of relevant experience may be accepted in place of a degree.

• SIX (6+) years of experience in database administration, database engineering, or similar technical roles.

• Practical experience administering Oracle database environments in production scenarios.

• Proficient in Oracle database administration and lifecycle management.

• Familiarity with performance monitoring, analysis, and tuning.

• Experience with backup and recovery processes.

• Background in high availability and resiliency solutions.

• Knowledge of database patching and upgrades.

• Expertise in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.

• Experience with database security and vulnerability remediation.

• Skills in automation, scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code, or configuration management technologies.

• Experience supporting mission-critical or business-critical database environments with strict availability, security, and performance standards.

• Familiarity with databases in cloud, managed-service, virtualized, or hybrid-cloud environments.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and customer service abilities.

• Capability to adapt to changing technologies, cloud modernization initiatives, and evolving operational requirements.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multifunctional technical teams.

• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or other federal government clearance as needed.

• Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Azure.

• Preferred: Experience with Tessell or similar Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) or managed database platforms.

• Preferred: Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or other enterprise database technologies.

• Preferred: Certifications in Oracle, Microsoft Azure, cloud, database, security, or ITIL.
