Database Architect – Hands-On

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.

📋 Description

• Design, architect, and implement scalable, secure, and resilient database systems.

• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, optimize queries, create indexing strategies, and fine-tune servers.

• Conduct audits on existing database architectures and legacy schemas.

• Suggest and implement structural enhancements with minimal downtime for the system.

• Lead efforts in logical and physical data modeling.

• Ensure data integrity, normalization, and compliance with contemporary software design principles.

• Design and manage data replication, clustering, disaster recovery protocols, and access controls.

• Mentor the engineering team and share database expertise.

• Assess and recommend database technologies, storage engines, and caching methodologies.

• Address complex data challenges and convey architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Report directly to the Development Manager and provide support to the broader Development team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Availability to work during Melbourne (Australia) hours.

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in a dedicated Database Architect, Senior DBA, or Data Engineering role.

• Ideally experienced within the telecommunications sector or a high-volume ISP environment.

• Proven experience collaborating with remote teams.

• Extensive background in designing, implementing, and managing databases for complex service-oriented systems.

• Deep understanding of intricate SQL queries, transaction isolation levels, and concurrency control.

• Experience with MySQL, MariaDB, or comparable relational databases.

• Advanced skills in logical and physical data modeling.

• Proficiency in query profiling, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.

• Familiarity with Redis or Memcached.

• Experience in database administration and shell scripting within a Linux environment.

• Proficient in using Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket for schema change management.

• Ability to quickly learn new technologies.

• Strong problem-solving skills and capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in a development team.
