Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.

📋 Description

• Provide daily administrative support and ensure the operational efficiency of MongoDB Atlas across production, testing, and preview environments.

• Monitor alerts, performance metrics, cluster health, and resource utilization for MongoDB Atlas.

• Analyze logs and monitoring tools to proactively identify potential issues before they impact applications.

• Assist in managing cluster performance and capacity, including workload trends, storage growth, cluster sizing, and autoscaling behavior.

• Evaluate query and index performance utilizing MongoDB Atlas monitoring and diagnostic tools.

• Collaborate with development teams to investigate inefficient queries and application behaviors.

• Provide support for the administration of MongoDB databases, collections, indexes, users, roles, network access controls, and security configurations.

• Assist in MongoDB Atlas backup and restoration processes, point-in-time recovery, disaster recovery testing, and recovery validation.

• Support maintenance and platform modifications for MongoDB Atlas, including upgrades, version changes, scaling events, and configuration adjustments.

• Engage in incident response and production troubleshooting to determine root causes and restore services.

• Troubleshoot connectivity and database access issues in collaboration with development teams, application support, and Cloud Operations.

• Aid in database security and access management, addressing access requests, role assignments, permission adjustments, and employee termination reviews.

• Support database change management by reviewing, testing, and documenting approved changes.

• Evaluate the capabilities of MongoDB Atlas, identify automation opportunities, and enhance operational practices.

• Assist with Redis, Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure SQL Managed Instance platforms.

• Document procedures, configurations, troubleshooting steps, recurring support tasks, and incident outcomes.

• Enhance technical knowledge of MongoDB Atlas and associated cloud database technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, or a related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.

• A minimum of five years’ experience with database systems, data platforms, or related technical database environments is preferred.

• At least one year of hands-on experience with MongoDB or MongoDB Atlas is highly preferred.

• Experience with relational database technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, or Azure SQL Managed Instance is advantageous.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, monitoring tools, or application troubleshooting is valuable.

• Strong grasp of database concepts, including databases, collections or tables, indexes, queries, security, backup, and recovery.

• Understanding of document-oriented and NoSQL database principles.

• Knowledge of database performance concepts, including query behavior, indexing, resource utilization, and performance monitoring.

• Familiarity with cloud-based database platforms like MongoDB Atlas, Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Amazon Web Services database services, or similar technologies.

• Knowledge of monitoring and troubleshooting tools; ability to utilize metrics, logs, and alerts for technical investigations.

• Basic understanding of cloud networking and application connectivity.

• Familiarity with authentication, access control, and security principles.

• Basic knowledge of the software development lifecycle.

• Familiarity with change management, incident management, and Agile methodologies is beneficial.

• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to production incidents as needed.

• Completion of the MongoDB University MongoDB Atlas Administrator Path is required within the first three months of employment.

• Successful completion of the MongoDB Atlas Administrator Exam and obtaining the MongoDB Associate Atlas Administrator certification is required within the first six months of employment.
