Data Strategy and Business Analytics Director

📋 Description

• Oversee management reporting and business analytics for the organization.

• Convert inquiries from service lines, Finance, and executive leadership into precise and consistent reporting.

• Spearhead the creation, evaluation, and implementation of firmwide dashboards in collaboration with the Information Technology data analytics team.

• Establish requirements, assess logic and calculations, perform user acceptance tests, and facilitate dashboard adoption.

• Ensure that dashboard outputs align with systems of record.

• Document and sustain repeatable source data, along with definitions and calculation methods.

• Work together with Financial Planning & Analysis on monthly financial reporting for service lines, the Finance Committee, and the Board.

• Analyze results, explain variances, and provide supporting analysis.

• Create and uphold firmwide performance metric definitions and data standards.

• Counsel leadership on reported results and identify trends, exceptions, and issues that need attention.

• Prioritize the reporting and analytics portfolio in conjunction with the Chief Data Officer.

• Utilize accounting and audit expertise to assess data quality and support reporting controls.

• Lead, coach, mentor, and provide performance evaluations for the analytics team.

• Engage with internal clients and take part in priority projects.

• Foster cross-functional relationships and manage confidential information.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in public accounting, financial reporting, or management reporting and analytics.

• Must possess an active CPA license.

• Audit experience is desirable.

• Familiarity with financial accounting, financial statement analysis, and the economics of a professional services firm.

• Proven experience in transforming business inquiries into reporting requirements and validating the resulting outputs.

• Practical knowledge of business intelligence and reporting platforms, including Microsoft Power BI, along with relevant data structures.

• Capability to identify errors in logic, source data, or calculations.

• Ability to influence other teams and co-pilot cross-team initiatives without direct authority.

• Experience in presenting to executive leadership, committees, and boards.

• Exceptional analytical and Excel skills.

• Experience in continuous improvement from diagnosis, documentation, to execution.

• Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment.

• Competence in leading, developing, and retaining a small team of analytics professionals.
