Data Solutions Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Establish and convey the technical direction for data solutions within designated domains.

• Act as the design authority for major data projects, assessing and approving designs from delivery teams.

• Facilitate alignment across various teams and document architectural decisions made in uncertain situations.

• Develop and execute comprehensive data warehouses, data lakes, and data pipelines.

• Create both logical and physical data models.

• Choose cloud platforms, database technologies, and orchestration tools based on specific use cases, scalability, and cost considerations.

• Convert business goals into technical requirements for data, reporting, and advanced analytics.

• Clarify the cost, risks, time-to-value, and long-term effects of technical alternatives.

• Ensure that data solutions adhere to standards of accuracy, accessibility, governance, and regulatory compliance.

• Design integration patterns for APIs, services, and pipelines.

• Facilitate the use of analytics, BI, and AI through well-documented data products.

• Develop long-term data roadmaps and provide guidance on build-versus-buy and platform choices.

• Design data environments that are secure, scalable, resilient, and monitored.

• Mentor data engineers and junior architects.

• Conduct design reviews and lead architecture working sessions.

• Produce reference architectures, design patterns, decision logs, and other documentation.

• Participate in hiring, technical evaluations, and contribute to the data community of practice.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Extensive progressive experience in data engineering, data architecture, or solution architecture, including significant time in a senior technical or architect-level role.

• Experience acting as a technical leader or design authority for major data initiatives across multiple teams or business domains.

• Proven experience in designing data solutions that facilitate analytics, reporting, or AI/ML applications.

• Practical experience with cloud data platforms and contemporary data technologies.

• A history of influencing technical direction and promoting the adoption of standards or patterns across unmanaged teams.

• Experience working directly with business leaders to prioritize goals, outline trade-offs, and support investment choices.

• Excellent communication skills for articulating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and presenting recommendations to senior leadership.

• Experience mentoring engineers or fellow architects.

• Deep understanding of modern data architectures, including data lakes, data warehouses, and both streaming and batch pipelines.

• Ability to design solutions that integrate data from various systems and domains.

• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, data security principles, and scalable design patterns.

• Preferred: experience in financial services, insurance, or other regulated sectors.

• Preferred: knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance requirements.

• Preferred: experience in supporting AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics solutions.

• Preferred: a background in agile or product-focused delivery models.

• Preferred: experience with enterprise architecture review boards or similar governance bodies.
