Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of data science projects from inception to completion, encompassing problem definition, method selection, modeling, validation, and communicating outcomes to stakeholders.

• Deliver certified, production-ready data solutions such as models, scores, and features.

• Design, execute, and analyze experiments, including formulating hypotheses, determining sample sizes, and interpreting non-conclusive findings.

• Develop and sustain predictive models and analytical pipelines utilizing Python or R, SQL, and dbt on Databricks.

• Collaborate with the Staff Data Scientist and Director to shape the data science roadmap, including challenging low-impact requests.

• Work alongside Data Champions to ensure that data science outputs are effectively integrated across business teams.

• Collaborate with the Data Platform team to ensure data quality and the reliability of upstream data products.

• Provide mentorship to analysts and junior team members.

• Participate in code reviews and uphold team standards.

• Ensure proper documentation and maintain reproducible code so that colleagues can independently continue the work.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4–7 years of professional experience in data science, applied statistics, or a closely related quantitative discipline.

• Proven ability to manage projects independently, from vague requests to concrete results, without requiring daily oversight.

• Results-oriented mindset focused on measurable business outcomes such as churn, usage, and revenue.

• Proficient in SQL and skilled in either Python or R.

• Strong foundation in statistics and experimental design, including an understanding of the limitations of various tests.

• Ability to assess and prioritize tasks effectively, knowing when to defer or decline requests.

• Excellent communication abilities, including the capacity to clarify technical concepts to non-technical audiences and advocate for data-driven conclusions.

• Must be eligible to work in all U.S. states except for the District of Columbia.

• Preferred: Experience as the sole data scientist or one of very few on a team.

• Preferred: Practical experience with Databricks and dbt.

• Preferred: Familiarity with production ML systems, recommendation engines, or MLOps methodologies.

• Preferred: Background in a subscription or SaaS environment, particularly in relation to churn, retention, and usage analytics.

• Preferred: Knowledge of data mesh or distributed analytics operating models.
