This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist GDIT’s NASA initiatives
• Organize and detail the portfolio’s data with clear, consistent, and searchable dataset records
• Develop and maintain taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, a shared business glossary, metadata, and documentation standards
• Establish cataloging and metadata standards and ensure the data team adheres to them
• Aid analysts, engineers, and program personnel in locating, interpreting, and evaluating data provenance and limitations
• Introduce new datasets while phasing out outdated ones
• Document data provenance and ownership, apply sensitivity and controlled (CUI) classification, and identify data quality issues
• Trace data lineage comprehensively across sources, systems, owners, flows, transformations, and downstream users
• Assess, implement, and integrate an enterprise data catalog tool like DataHub, Atlan, Collibra, Alation, or Microsoft Purview
• Define the metadata model and connect the catalog with portfolio data sources
• Ensure catalog integration with the Dagster data orchestration tool
• Define and monitor metrics for metadata completeness, documentation, and freshness
• Promote catalog usage throughout the portfolio and act as the primary contact for data discovery, description, and application
• Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) with a focus on data curation, research data management, or informatics, or a related information or data degree with proven cataloging and metadata experience
• US Citizenship and the capability to secure necessary agency clearance
• Over 5 years of experience in a data librarian, research data services, data curation, or metadata and catalog position
• Practical experience in managing a data catalog or metadata management platform, such as DataHub, Atlan, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, or Amundsen, or equivalent experience overseeing a metadata repository or catalog
• Familiarity with data team operations, including pipelines, data flows, and the production and utilization of data, adequate for accurately capturing lineage and metadata
• Proficient in metadata standards, taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, and data dictionaries
• Proven ability to encourage adoption of a catalog, standard, or shared data practice across various teams
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; capable of bridging the gap between technical and program audiences
• Basic understanding of data engineering practices, including pipelines and orchestration, warehouses and lakes, and transformation workflows
• Basic understanding of data science practices, including sourcing, preparing, and utilizing data for analysis and modeling
