Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Develop benchmark datasets and evaluation tasks specifically for pathology foundation models.

• Conduct statistical characterization of control datasets, which includes trend analysis, confounders, and batch effects across various sites and scanners.

• Curate and ensure quality control of extensive whole-slide image datasets along with their associated study metadata.

• Validate downstream pathology AI models and establish supporting evidence.

• Collaborate directly with pathologists to ensure datasets and results are grounded in real tissue morphology.

• Publish and present research findings effectively.

• Engage in research within EU-funded partnerships, such as BIGPICTURE and VICT3R, contributing to the principles of the 3Rs in animal research.

⛳️ Requirements

• A PhD in a quantitative or biomedical discipline, or equivalent practical research experience in the industry.

• Experience with machine learning applied to biomedical data, preferably in biomedical imaging.

• Strong familiarity with scientific literature and the ability to transform findings into testable work.

• Proven experience across the complete research workflow: from formulating scientific questions to dataset management, analysis, validation, and presenting results.

• Solid understanding of applied statistics and commitment to reproducible analysis practices.

• Proficiency in Python and/or R, as well as SQL.

• Effective scientific communication skills with pathologists, engineers, and external collaborators.

• Must be eligible to work in Ireland; Deciphex is unable to provide Irish work permits or visa sponsorship.

• Preferred qualifications include experience in computational pathology or whole-slide imaging.

• Additional preferences: knowledge of preclinical toxicology study design.

• Additional preferences: familiarity with pathology foundation models or self-supervised learning.

• Additional preferences: knowledge of SEND/CDISC or GLP standards.

• Additional preferences: prior experience in EU-funded consortia.
