This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Implement machine learning techniques across various data challenges such as detection, classification, entity resolution, matching evaluation, anomaly detection, embeddings, semantic search, and feature engineering.
• Evaluate model performance using actual production data, establish ground-truth where labels are absent, and identify drift and degradation over time.
• Enhance data quality through machine learning by identifying systematic, large-scale errors often overlooked by manual reviews and directing the findings to the appropriate fix owners.
• Transform open-ended inquiries into prototypes and actionable recommendations, including dismissing concepts that are not viable for development.
• Develop supportive tools and dashboards, such as semantic search functionalities over text and Streamlit dashboards, to assist analysts and data stewards.
• Collaborate closely with a product or data team on projects with clearly defined scopes.
• Work in partnership with engineers, analysts, project managers, and subject-matter experts.
• Engage in additional machine learning and data science projects as Candid's requirements and priorities evolve.
• Report directly to the Director of Data Science.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in the field.
• Proficient generalist applied data scientist with the ability to navigate across classification, entity resolution, matching evaluation, anomaly detection, embeddings, semantic search, feature engineering, and exploratory feasibility tasks.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Experience handling large production datasets, including Starburst/Trino and Snowflake.
• Familiarity with AWS for cloud computing tasks.
• Proven experience in assessing model performance using real-world production data, including establishing ground-truth where labels do not exist and identifying drift.
• Proficient in building and maintaining Streamlit dashboards that display data quality and model performance metrics.
• Experience in converting ambiguous questions into prototypes and recommendations, including the ability to filter out less promising ideas.
• Strong statistical acumen regarding sampling, error rates, uncertainty, and the ability to discern when findings are significant.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working embedded within another team with a project-defined scope.
• Preferred experience in applying machine learning to enhance data quality.
• Preferred experience with embeddings, semantic search, NLP over text corpora, recommendation/ranking/propensity modeling, computer vision or multimodal ML, entity resolution or deduplication systems, derived data products, or familiarity with the U.S. nonprofit and philanthropic sector.
• Openness to undertake additional duties and special projects as required.
• Awareness and respect for racial, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural diversity.
• Commitment to Candid's core values: driven, direct, accessible, curious, and inclusive.
• Health insurance coverage (medical, dental, vision).
• Retirement plan contributions with an additional matching option.

• Paid time off (PTO), compassionate leave, volunteer time, holiday leave, and parental leave.
• Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
• Pre-tax transit benefits.
• Flexible spending accounts.
• Supplemental insurance options.
• Summer hours for improved work-life balance.
• Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
• Availability of remote work options.
