Data Platform Engineering Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Establish and enhance technical and architectural standards for the utilization of both relational and non-relational databases throughout the organization.

• Oversee and support the functionality of databases in production, staging, and development settings.

• Assist development and architecture teams in selecting the most suitable persistence technology for each workload.

• Outline best practices for the creation and management of databases, schemas, users, roles, permissions, indexes, and other database components.

• Design and execute strategies for high availability, replication, failover, and database recovery.

• Direct operational strategies for database backup, restoration, disaster recovery, monitoring, performance, capacity, and scalability.

• Aid in load testing, capacity planning, and scalability assessment of solutions.

• Establish and implement standards for database observability, encompassing metrics, logs, dashboards, and alerts.

• Collaborate with databases operating in public cloud environments and containerized platforms.

• Provide support for data workloads running on Kubernetes, focusing on their persistence, availability, scalability, and platform integration mechanisms.

• Automate database provisioning, configuration, and operations utilizing IaC, CI/CD, and GitOps, contributing to Database as a Service (DBaaS) and self-service functionalities for development teams.

• Assist with database migration and modernization efforts across on-premises, cloud, and container platforms.

• Define and enforce security best practices, including encryption, access segregation, credential management, and adherence to the principle of least privilege.

• Create technical documentation, architectural standards, runbooks, and operational procedures.

• Provide support for troubleshooting and managing complex database-related incidents.

• Assess new technologies and recommend enhancements to the data architecture and platform.

• Engage frequently with Platform, Development, Infrastructure, Security, and Architecture teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Graduate degree or specialization in Cloud Computing, Databases, Software Architecture, or a related field.

• Extensive experience in administering databases in production environments.

• Advanced familiarity with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.

• Experience with additional relational databases such as MySQL, SQL Server, or equivalent technologies.

• Proficient in SQL, including advanced queries, indexes, execution plans, and performance optimization.

• Understanding of database architecture, replication, high availability, and failover strategies.

• Experience with backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and Point-in-Time Recovery.

• Knowledge of defining and implementing RPO and RTO.

• Competence in database performance analysis, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.

• Familiarity with managed database services from public cloud providers.

• Experience with AWS and Azure environments.

• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and tools such as Terraform or equivalent technologies.

• Understanding of containers and Kubernetes, including stateful workload concepts, persistence, volumes, storage classes, secrets, and high availability.

• Familiarity with automation practices and integration with CI/CD pipelines.

• Knowledge of GitOps concepts and practices.

• Experience with Platform Engineering practices and Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs).

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or equivalent technologies.

• Understanding of database security practices, including encryption, access control, auditing, and credential management.

• Proficiency in scripting or programming for automation, using languages such as Python, Shell scripting, or equivalent technologies.

• Experience with database migration and modernization.

• Ability to diagnose and resolve intricate availability, performance, and scalability issues.

• Capacity to analyze application requirements and suggest suitable persistence architectures.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
