Data Engineering Manager, Regulatory Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the daily operations of the data engineering team, including setting objectives, mentorship, AI-assisted software development lifecycle (SDLC), coaching, leadership, guidance, performance evaluation, and providing feedback.

• Engage professionally with state and provincial regulatory officials while establishing clear expectations with regulators.

• Manage a high-responsibility workflow characterized by strict deadlines and audit scrutiny.

• Collaborate with analytics, finance, compliance, and engineering teams to create data pipelines, infrastructure, and tools that support analytics initiatives.

• Prioritize and oversee data-related projects across various functions from inception to delivery.

• Contribute to the design and maintenance of data pipelines while continuously improving data engineering architecture.

• Work with the team to achieve performance, scalability, and reliability objectives.

• Keep abreast of trends, techniques, technologies, and other influences impacting data engineering.

• Perform additional duties as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong background in data engineering, computer science, distributed systems, and software/system design.

• A minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role focused on data.

• At least 5 years of experience in software/data development.

• Proven experience in leading teams of 3 engineers or more.

• Experience in a regulated industry is highly encouraged.

• Skills in time management, project management, and problem-solving.

• Proficiency with Atlassian and other agile tools.

• Capability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Outstanding presentation and communication abilities.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.

• Competence in making and justifying priority decisions based on technical evaluations and regulatory requirements.

• Skills in team building and delegation.

• Familiarity with Airflow, dbt, AWS Lambdas, or comparable data pipeline and workflow management tools.

• Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL, Python, and Docker.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP and AWS and related services.

• Fundamental knowledge of systems design and practical familiarity with data architecture and governance.

• Nice to have: web experience with React, Django, or Flask; understanding of machine learning concepts; knowledge of Kubernetes; familiarity with Terraform.
