Data Engineering Manager, Regulatory Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee the daily operations of the data engineering team, including setting goals, providing mentorship, coaching, leadership, guidance, performance management, and feedback.

• Engage professionally with state and provincial regulatory officials and establish clear expectations with regulators.

• Manage a high-responsibility workstream that adheres to strict deadlines and undergoes audit scrutiny.

• Collaborate with analytics, finance, compliance, and engineering teams to develop data pipelines, infrastructure, and tooling.

• Prioritize and oversee cross-functional data projects from their initial stages through to delivery.

• Contribute to the design and maintenance of data pipelines while enhancing data engineering architecture.

• Work together with the team to achieve performance, scalability, and reliability objectives.

• Stay updated on trends, techniques, technologies, and other factors relevant to data engineering.

• Carry out additional duties as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Solid foundation in data engineering principles, computer science, distributed systems, and software/system design.

• At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or management role focused on data.

• A minimum of 5 years in software/data development.

• Proven experience leading teams of 3 or more engineers.

• Experience in a regulated industry is highly encouraged.

• Strong time management, project management, and problem-solving abilities.

• Familiarity with Atlassian and other agile tools.

• Ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Exceptional presentation and communication skills.

• Capability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.

• Ability to make and justify priority decisions based on technical evaluations and regulatory requirements.

• Skills in team building and delegation.

• Experience with Airflow, DBT, AWS Lambdas, or similar data pipeline and workflow tools.

• Comprehensive knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Python, and Docker.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as GCP and AWS, along with related services.

• Understanding of systems design fundamentals and a working knowledge of data architecture and governance.

• Interest in professional sports, betting, and/or eSports.

• Preferred: Experience with web technologies such as React, Django, or Flask; understanding of machine learning concepts; familiarity with Kubernetes; knowledge of Terraform.
