Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for the ingestion, transformation, and delivery of data to Google BigQuery and other cloud data platforms.

• Develop, document, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs for internal applications, dashboards, and third-party users.

• Create and manage a semantic data layer that converts raw data into consistent, business-friendly metrics and definitions.

• Implement and sustain a data catalog/knowledge catalog for data discoverability, lineage tracking, and metadata management.

• Enhance BigQuery performance through partitioning, clustering, query optimization, and cost-management strategies.

• Establish data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to guarantee pipeline reliability and data integrity.

• Collaborate with analytics, product, and engineering teams to gather requirements and develop scalable data models and API contracts.

• Uphold data governance, security, and access-control standards, including handling of PII, role-based access, and encryption.

• Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable Python/SQL and backend API code.

• Engage in code reviews, architecture discussions, and CI/CD pipeline development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a full-stack data role.

• At least 3 years of demonstrated strong programming skills in Python, Kotlin, and Java.

• 3 years of hands-on experience with Google BigQuery, including data modeling, query optimization, cost management, and scheduled queries.

• More than 3 years of experience designing and building REST and/or GraphQL APIs using FastAPI, Flask, Node.js/Express, or similar technologies.

• 3 years of experience in building and maintaining a semantic layer such as dbt, LookML/Looker, Cube.js, or AtScale.

• Over 2 years of experience with a strong understanding of testing, monitoring, reliability, and maintainable software design.

• At least 2 years of experience with SQL and structured data.

• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
