Data Architecture Technical Principal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Establish the target-state data architecture encompassing transformation, organization, availability, and consumption for analytics, AI, reporting, and business applications.

• Strategize, develop, enhance, and sustain data architecture for data warehouses and data marts.

• Facilitate metric and KPI standardization through semantic modeling, business definitions, and reusable data products.

• Build a shared business context and AI reasoning capabilities utilizing a business ontology.

• Design and deliver enterprise data products that align with core business domains.

• Set analytics modeling standards to support self-service analytics and ensure consistent reporting.

• Conduct comprehensive data analysis and data modeling to support the target-state architecture.

• Guarantee data consistency and accessibility.

• Collaborate effectively with IT and business teams.

• Assess and integrate new data management technologies.

• Define and scale data architecture specifically for GM Insurance.

• Establish standards, patterns, and technical direction for trustworthy data products and scalable self-service analytics and AI capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in defining and implementing modern enterprise data architecture at scale.

• Practical experience in information architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing utilizing normalized, dimensional, and fit-for-purpose modeling techniques.

• Proficiency in enabling business intelligence and self-service analytics through semantic layers, shared metrics, enterprise information models, business ontologies, and business vocabulary standards.

• Familiarity with major cloud platforms and modern data platforms; experience with Azure and Databricks is preferred.

• Advanced SQL skills; experience with Databricks SQL, query optimization, reusable views, and metric definitions is preferred.

• Knowledge of Databricks Unity Catalog Semantics, dbt Semantic Layer, LookML, or AtScale is advantageous.

• Preferred experience with Databricks SQL Warehouses, Unity Catalog, dashboards, MLflow, Feature Store, and AI/BI capabilities.

• Working knowledge of Python, PySpark, notebooks, jobs, APIs, and metadata automation is preferred.

• Experience with Git, CI/CD, configuration-based deployment, and infrastructure-as-code patterns is preferred.

• Ability to collaborate with business, technology, analytics, governance, privacy, and security stakeholders.

• Capability to steer architecture decisions by balancing business value, risk, investment, scalability, data quality, and fit-for-purpose design.

• Strong business insight in auto insurance, including operations, customer lifecycle, claims, underwriting, pricing, and regulatory aspects.

• Experience in regulated or data-sensitive environments.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in a related role is required.

• 3–5 years of experience in leading through mentorship within a related field is required.

• 3–5 years of experience in leading projects and initiatives through influence is required.

• A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

• An Associate's degree or a High School Diploma with an additional 2 years of related experience is required.

• Relevant certifications and/or licenses are required.
