This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of specified data collection, management, analysis, and reporting workflows from the planning phase to customer-ready delivery.
• Utilize the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard along with Scope 2 and Scope 3 guidelines to define boundaries, identify emission sources, document exclusions, and uphold calculation methodologies.
• Create strategies for customer data collection, which include source mapping, identifying data owners, developing request templates, scheduling, establishing evidence requirements, and outlining escalation paths.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers, utilities, internal WM teams, and data owners to gather information, clarify assumptions, bridge gaps, and document decisions.
• Gather, cleanse, reconcile, transform, and organize intricate multi-source datasets while ensuring source traceability.
• Build and sustain data workflows, calculation models, file structures, data dictionaries, process documentation, quality assurance/quality control checks, and version-control practices.
• Compute and verify Scope 1, Scope 2, and pertinent Scope 3 emissions using emission factors, unit conversions, estimation methods, and calculation tools.
• Evaluate data for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and representativeness; identify anomalies and gaps; recommend solutions; and escalate significant risks.
• Investigate and benchmark GHG accounting methodologies, emission factors, reporting frameworks, sector practices, and decarbonization strategies.
• Analyze inventory results to pinpoint significant emission sources, trends, drivers, and reduction opportunities.
• Prepare customer-ready tables, inventories, visualizations, dashboards, reports, presentations, and methodology documentation.
• Assist in customer meetings by preparing data requests and materials, presenting findings, documenting decisions, and completing follow-up actions.
• Oversee timelines, dependencies, and deliverables; communicate progress; and highlight risks or delays with suggested paths forward.
• Enhance templates, workflows, automation opportunities, and reporting structures to boost efficiency and scalability.
• Maintain well-organized project files and records for continuity, auditability, customer review, and compliance.
• Facilitate third-party verification by organizing source records, preparing evidence packages, addressing inquiries, and documenting changes or corrective actions.
• Keep updated on GHG accounting, sustainability reporting, emission factors, decarbonization, and climate disclosure requirements.
• Assess and integrate AI-enabled tools and automation into materials management workflows while maintaining quality controls.
• Ensure compliance with customer and government requirements, promote safety, and perform other assigned duties.
• Must reside and work in the U.S.
• Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Sustainability, Business, or a related field.
• High School Diploma or GED (accredited) along with four years of relevant experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in data analytics, dashboarding or data visualization, environmental consulting, GHG accounting, sustainability reporting, business analysis, regulatory research, or related fields, in addition to the education requirement.
• Experience in managing, cleansing, reconciling, and analyzing multi-source datasets and documenting repeatable data processes.
• Background in conducting or supporting organizational GHG inventories in line with the GHG Protocol.
• Advanced skills in Excel, including complex formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, structured tables, and quality-control techniques.
• Strong data management abilities, covering data cleansing, reconciliation, transformation, documentation, file organization, and version control.
• Working knowledge of relational data concepts, data visualization, dashboard development, and repeatable analytical workflows.
• Applied understanding of the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and principles for defining inventory boundaries and categorizing Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 sources.
• Capability to apply activity data, emission factors, unit conversions, estimation methods, and quality checks for GHG calculations.
• Ability to assess data quality, identify anomalies and gaps, document assumptions and limitations, and devise resolution strategies.
• Skill in translating complex data and GHG inventory results into actionable insights and decarbonization recommendations.
• Ability to develop practical data collection strategies and communicate effectively with data owners, suppliers, customers, and project teams.
• Proficiency in preparing traceable documentation and evidence for audit, assurance, and third-party verification.
• Ability to manage defined workstreams, prioritize multiple tasks, anticipate needs, and communicate risks and progress with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with mandatory climate disclosure and GHG reporting requirements, including California SB 253.
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office and adaptability to new software, data platforms, and emissions-management systems.
• Knowledge of AI-enabled tools and readiness to responsibly incorporate them into workflows.
• Self-motivated and capable of delivering results while working remotely, in an office, or at customer sites.
• Willingness to travel up to 35%, including trips lasting up to two weeks at a time.
• REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative, or a willingness to obtain one, may be required for air travel or access to federal properties.
