This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +2 more states.
• Assess published scientific literature and recognize innovative research and pivotal scientific inquiries pertinent to the NASA Wildland Fires Program and FireSense Project.
• Assist in data evaluation and analysis to ensure that the scientific objectives of the program and project are met.
• Transform NASA-acquired L0 data into L2 or L3 data products derived from various sensors.
• Comprehend and integrate instrument limitations and assumptions during data analysis.
• Detect and implement essential corrections for data quality control and propagate uncertainties throughout the generated products.
• Aid in the collection and organization of field data across the entire portfolio.
• Contribute to the development and distribution of data pipelines and algorithms for NASA facility instrumentation.
• Bachelor's degree with ongoing graduate studies in earth system science, environmental science, meteorology, or related disciplines.
• Participation in NASA Science Activation and NASA GLOBE programs.
• Experience with PM2.5 small sensors, including assembly, intercomparison, installation, maintenance, data retrieval, formatting, and analysis.
• Expertise in air quality data analysis and the integration of ground network and satellite data.
• Familiarity with FireSense field campaigns involving airborne and ground data.
• Proven experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
• Conducting data analysis on spatiotemporal datasets utilizing GIS software.
• Strong accountability and self-discipline to operate effectively in a virtual setting.
• Capacity to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams at various levels.
• Excellent time management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in scientific software, including Igor Pro, Python, and GIS.
• Familiarity with FireSense campaign data, such as MASTER, AVIRIS, and sounding and ground data.
• Competence with instrumentation and tools utilized by the NASA FireSense program, including air quality small sensors, Graw radiosondes, and hyperspectral imagers.
• Ability to ingest, process, and analyze spectral data.
• Capability to handle large datasets in various formats and across multiple platforms.
