Customs Specialist, Europe

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Prepare documentation for shipments and commercial invoices.

• Collect, verify, and securely store comprehensive documentation from brokers and carriers.

• Implement approved HTS classifications and determine country-of-origin throughout shipment processes and systems.

• Oversee daily relationships with customs brokers and coordinate clearance activities.

• Evaluate broker performance and ensure that practices align with the classification framework.

• Monitor duties within landed shipping costs and identify any unexpected duty results.

• Submit claims to customs brokers when discrepancies are identified.

• Address routine customs inquiries during the clearance process.

• Ensure the accuracy of import and export declarations.

• Manage the duty drawback program, including coordination with Livingstone and the preparation and validation of claims.

• Monitor and uphold compliance with the US import bond.

• Collaborate with manufacturers, initially in India, to ensure compliant and duty-efficient export documentation and processes.

• Identify opportunities for duty savings through relevant free trade agreements.

• Develop trade compliance processes as the jewellery business expands into new duty-liable markets.

• Refer complex classification and legal interpretation queries to the Legal & Compliance team.

• Establish the operating rhythm for this newly formed individual-contributor position.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in global trade compliance or customs operations, with a focus on US, UK, and EU import/export activities.

• Significant US import-export experience is essential.

• Direct experience in managing customs broker relationships and handling high-volume shipment documentation.

• Experience in filing duty drawback or tariff reclaim claims.

• Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy.

• Detail-oriented and process-focused.

• Located in the EU or UK, with the flexibility to work across time zones as the company expands globally.

• Strong stakeholder management skills for coordinating with external brokers, carriers, manufacturers, and internal Legal, Fulfilment, and Operations teams.

• Commercial mindset connecting compliance work to cost savings and business outcomes.

• Familiarity with free trade agreements and preferential duty schemes (preferred).

• Experience in the logistics of jewellery, diamonds, gemstones, or other high-value/luxury goods (preferred).

• Knowledge of Indian export processes (preferred).

• Background in a rapidly scaling international e-commerce or marketplace business (preferred).
