Cost Manager – Life Sciences Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Provide guidance to clients on procurement strategies and oversee vendor prequalification procedures.

• Evaluate proposals, bids, and bid leveling documentation; offer recommendations; participate in bid interviews; and assist with contract awards.

• Oversee estimating services throughout the entire project lifecycle, including construction estimates, estimate reviews, client presentations, benchmark analysis, value engineering suggestions, and risk assessments.

• Meet with contractors, consultants, and vendors to assess, validate, and question project costs and commercial assumptions.

• Develop cost reporting schedules; prepare and deliver cost reports and forecasts; review project budgets and spending forecasts; maintain commercial risk registers; and facilitate project cost reviews.

• Supervise cost control processes, including reviews of payment applications, contractor entitlement assessments, evaluations of change orders, and commercial recommendations.

• Assist with contract administration and the avoidance of disputes during project execution.

• Oversee and track project invoicing processes.

• Benchmark project performance against historical data and comparable projects.

• Manage final account negotiations, conduct post-contract audits, and handle project closeout activities.

• Conduct reviews of lessons learned and support the implementation of best practices.

• Create procedures governing project handover and closeout activities.

• Utilize cost estimating software, takeoff software, bid analysis tools, and change management documentation.

• Collaborate with project managers, designers, contractors, vendors, and client stakeholders.

• Comply with relevant SOX control responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Architecture, or a related construction field.

• At least 3-5 years of experience in cost management, quantity surveying, estimating, or commercial management within the construction sector.

• Experience in supporting medium to large-scale construction projects.

• Preferred experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, industrial, or highly technical construction projects.

• RICS accreditation or progress towards it is valued.

• Previous experience in construction consultancy is strongly preferred.

• Solid understanding of construction procurement methods, value engineering, cost planning, and commercial management practices.

• Experience in preparing estimates, managing budgets, reviewing change orders, and generating cost reports throughout the project lifecycle.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.
