Core Software Engineer, C++

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Evaluate and enhance the performance of the core ClickHouse database.

• Engage in optimizing queries, distributed query performance, relational operators, caching, and low-level SIMD optimizations.

• Develop and expand existing performance tests utilizing real-world or synthetic datasets.

• Assist Support Engineering in diagnosing complex customer performance challenges.

• Collaborate with other core teams to determine the performance implications of new features.

• Provide support to colleagues through performance testing and guidance.

• Address issues, review and finalize pull requests, and respond to inquiries from the open-source community via email, chats, Google Groups, and external Slack channels.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong professional software development experience in C++.

• Proficient with Unix Systems.

• In-depth knowledge of database internals and design.

• Background in performance engineering, preferably within database systems or high-frequency trading, simulation, or real-time data processing.

• Excellent collaborative skills for working within and across engineering teams.

• Eagerness to engage closely with the open-source community.

• Strong analytical and production debugging abilities.

• A passion for efficiency, availability, scalability, and data governance.

• High standards of responsibility, ownership, and accountability.

• Familiarity with ClickHouse is a plus.

• Experience in security, privacy, and compliance is advantageous.

• Knowledge of TCP/IP and network programming is a bonus.

• Experience in developing cloud infrastructure services, preferably with Kubernetes, is a bonus.

• History of giving public presentations at technical conferences and meetups is a bonus.

• Previous contributions to open-source projects are a plus.
