This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.

• Ensure the maintenance of precise books and records in compliance with U.S. GAAP.

• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, which include the balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and management reporting packages.

• Guarantee the timely completion of account reconciliations and supporting schedules.

• Manage the general ledger and the chart of accounts.

• Supervise cash management activities and ensure financial reporting compliance.

• Evaluate accounting transactions for accurate classification and GAAP adherence.

• Mentor and supervise the Senior Accountant.

• Oversee Accounts Payable operations and associated workflows.

• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting work prepared by team members.

• Set performance expectations and best practices for the accounting team.

• Assist with future recruitment and development of accounting staff.

• Serve as the primary administrator of QuickBooks.

• Enhance accounting workflows, reporting structures, and closing procedures.

• Assess and implement process improvements that boost efficiency and scalability.

• Evaluate future ERP needs and assist with system migration planning.

• Maintain documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and workflows.

• Administer and reconcile stock option and equity compensation records.

• Facilitate coordination between Carta and the general ledger.

• Record stock-based compensation expenses in accordance with ASC 718.

• Coordinate and support 409A valuation processes.

• Assist management with equity-related reporting and upcoming financing activities.

• Aid in the maintenance of the capitalization table and accounting for equity transactions.

• Prepare audit-ready financial statements and supporting workpapers.

• Coordinate annual audits, reviews, and other assurance engagements.

• Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, and valuation specialists.

• Support federal, state, and local tax filings.

• Ensure adherence to accounting policies and internal control requirements.

• Review accounting processes and identify control weaknesses.

• Design and implement scalable internal controls.

• Enhance approval workflows and financial governance procedures.

• Establish documented accounting policies and closing processes.

• Provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and financial reporting quality.

• Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

• Support fundraising activities, investor due diligence requests, and strategic initiatives.

• Assist in preparing Board and investor reporting packages.

• Contribute to building a finance organization capable of supporting rapid growth.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

• Over 8 years of progressive accounting experience.

• Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager.

• In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP.

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks.

• Experience in managing month-end and year-end closing processes.

• Experience supervising accounting personnel.

• Strong Excel and financial reporting capabilities.

• Outstanding analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and excel in a fast-paced startup environment.

• CPA designation is strongly preferred.

• Experience in venture-backed technology, semiconductor, hardware, software, AI, or high-growth sectors is preferred.

• Experience preparing companies for financial statement audits is preferred.

• Familiarity with startup scaling and implementing accounting controls is preferred.

• Experience with Carta or similar equity management platforms is preferred.

• Knowledge of ASC 718 stock-based compensation accounting, 409A valuations, equity incentive plans, investor reporting, and fundraising due diligence is preferred.

• Familiarity with future ERP implementations and finance system upgrades is preferred.

• Must be eligible to work without employer sponsorship; the company currently does not provide sponsorship for this role.
