Contract Reporter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Hampshire.

📋 Description

• Create two original, fact-based political story packages weekly focused on New Hampshire politics and policy.

• Collaborate with the Underwriting & Sponsored Content department.

• Relate state and local policy decisions to the everyday lives of New Hampshire residents.

• Develop each package to include one source-driven article and one corresponding presenter-led video using a provided template.

• Enhance story angles, integrate feedback, and ensure that reporting adheres to journalistic standards and style.

• Undertake thorough research, interviews, and fact-checking.

• Engage with affected community members, subject matter experts, and key political figures.

• Generate original story concepts, cultivate sources, and simplify complex policies and political dynamics for accessible coverage.

• Report news on camera for the Granite State audience.

• Produce social media content utilizing creative tools.

⛳️ Requirements

• Reside in New Hampshire.

• Minimum of 3 years of reporting experience in journalism, with a focus on politics, policy, or public affairs.

• Proven ability to consistently report, write, and submit multiple stories weekly within established deadlines.

• Strong reporting and writing capabilities, encompassing sourcing, interviewing, research, and fact-checking.

• Dedication to COURIER’s journalistic standards and style.

• In-depth knowledge of New Hampshire politics, institutions, and significant issues.

• Experience in front of the camera with social media videos and a skill set for creating them.

• Alignment with COURIER’s mission to deliver fact-based, people-centered reporting that enhances civic engagement and democracy.

• Experience with campaign-style content is advantageous.
