This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
β’ Facilitate and resolve condominium disputes in writing using the CATβs online dispute resolution platform.
β’ Operate in alignment with the CAOβs mission, core values, and governance and accountability documents.
β’ Handle multiple cases concurrently.
β’ Review active cases at least once daily for messages and tasks, and more frequently as needed based on ongoing cases.
β’ Attend monthly Member meetings and any additional training or meetings as required.
β’ Engage in the Tribunal Member performance assessment process, which may include self-assessments, peer reviews, and discussions regarding learning plans and supports.
β’ Obtain comprehensive training and understanding of applicable laws, tribunal procedures, and the CAT online dispute resolution system.
β’ Work under the general guidance and mentorship of the CAT Chair and one or more Vice-Chairs.
β’ May be considered for inclusion on an eligibility roster for future appointments, including CAT Member and Vice Chair roles.
β’ Must reside in Ontario.
β’ Experience in a neutral dispute resolution capacity, such as tribunal member, adjudicator, arbitrator, mediator, conciliator, ombudsperson, or a similar role.
β’ Capability to mediate and adjudicate disputes, including issue identification, evidence assessment, facilitating resolutions, and rendering fair and impartial decisions.
β’ Proficient in conducting dispute resolution primarily through written communication in an online setting.
β’ Experience in interpreting and applying legislation, policies, case law, or regulatory frameworks in a relevant context.
β’ Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, the Condominium Act, 1998, the Statutory Powers Procedure Act, administrative law principles, procedural fairness, and natural justice.
β’ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
β’ Excellent written communication skills.
β’ Ability to produce clear, concise, well-reasoned, legally sound written decisions, orders, and procedural directions within set timelines.
β’ Understanding of, or a demonstrated interest in, administrative tribunals, condominium law, condominium communities, and consumer protection.
β’ Effective, respectful, and empathetic communication skills with diverse participants, including self-represented individuals.
β’ Commitment to principles of accessibility, procedural fairness, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accommodation.
β’ Strong organizational and time-management skills.
β’ Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook.
β’ Proven integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
β’ Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage conflicts of interest appropriately.
β’ Capacity to act in accordance with the law and the CAO's mission, values, and policies.
β’ Dedication to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous improvement.
β’ Availability to commit 10 to 20 hours per week exclusively to CAT responsibilities.
β’ Fluency in French, both written and oral, is an asset that will receive additional consideration.
