Communications and Content Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Oversee CDI’s editorial calendar and manage owned content.

• Compose, design, and distribute the higher education newsletter while producing the blog.

• Execute a cohesive organic social calendar that encompasses brand, executive, and thought-leadership content.

• Collaborate with Partnerships and Marketing to organize webinars, conferences, target segments, and assess pipeline impact.

• Transform research into blog entries, op-ed drafts, social media posts, newsletter features, and other related content.

• Create and package thought-leadership material in collaboration with subject-matter experts.

• Coordinate production schedules with the Impact team and subject-matter experts.

• Develop and manage press lists, draft media pitches, and assist with media coverage.

• Monitor and document media coverage and mentions.

• Foster direct media relationships over time.

• Create marketing materials and guide external designers.

• Uphold brand templates and standards while managing design requests and intake.

• Generate marketing case studies and testimonials in partnership with Demand Generation and Impact teams.

• Report to the VP of Strategic Communications; this role has no direct reports.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, content marketing, editorial, or journalism.

• A portfolio showcasing published work across newsletters, articles, blogs, social media, and long-form content.

• Strong skills in editorial operations, including managing calendars, cadences, systems, deadlines, and quality control.

• Proven ability to excel in a startup or resource-constrained environment while driving independent execution.

• Exceptional writing and editing capabilities across various formats.

• Experience in cross-functional collaboration with subject-matter experts, marketing, and partnership teams.

• Knowledge of newsworthiness with comfort in drafting pitches and cultivating press relationships.

• Strong visual and design judgment; adept at directing external designers and adhering to brand templates and standards.

• Ability to communicate constructively and credibly across different ideological perspectives.

• Alignment with CDI’s nonpartisan mission and an understanding of the necessity for nonpartisan restraint.

• Proficiency with CMS, email platforms like HubSpot, social scheduling tools, and other content and marketing applications.

• Capability to utilize modern AI tools while applying human judgment and editing skills.

• Experience with Canva is a plus.

• Familiarity with the higher education sector is advantageous.

• Must reside in the U.S.

• Flexibility to work within U.S. time zones is required.
