Coder, Provider Practice – Primary Care/Rural Health

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Act as a point of contact for providers regarding eligible indications and necessary documentation.

• Assist with technical and professional services in provider clinics, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and hospital professional services.

• Comprehend and facilitate Medicare and Commercial Carrier workflows for daily coding, denial assessments, and appeals management.

• Compile supporting documents and information for appeals processes.

• Oversee and verify physician charge capture.

• Engage in coding team meetings and act as a subject matter expert.

• Examine medical documentation to assign modifiers, diagnostic codes, and procedure codes.

• Execute ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT coding in accordance with official standards and compliance guidelines.

• Review and audit medical records to ensure appropriate service reimbursement.

• Communicate coding guidelines to physicians and healthcare providers to enhance documentation accuracy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Certification in Coding is essential.

• In-depth understanding of diagnostic and procedural terminology.

• Completion of relevant coursework from an accredited institution in ICD diagnosis, CPT, HCPCS coding schemes, medical terminology, or human anatomy/physiology is preferred.

• Certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCS-P, CCS-H, or COC is mandatory.

• If not certified upon hiring, certification must be achieved within one year from the date of hire.

• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT coding.

• Strong computer skills.

• Capability to interpret, analyze, and abstract data/documentation.

• Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational abilities.

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and provide informed and accurate recommendations to medical professionals.
