Cloud Windows Server/IIS System Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee, update, and manage Microsoft Windows Server environments within an AWS-hosted Federal cloud infrastructure.

• Set up, administer, and enhance Microsoft IIS web servers, focusing on application pools, bindings, SSL/TLS certificates, and site configurations.

• Implement security hardening strategies in line with DISA STIGs, NIST SP 800-53 controls, and specific agency security policies.

• Monitor the health, performance, and availability of Windows Server and IIS using DataDog; triage and resolve incidents based on SLA tiers.

• Collaborate with DevOps engineering on Windows infrastructure tasks, CI/CD pipeline integration, IaC support, and automated deployment processes.

• Assist with FISMA compliance, vulnerability management, IAVA remediation, security documentation, and audit artifacts.

• Address critical infrastructure incidents within set SLA response times, ensuring a 12-hour acknowledgment for Critical/High-tier issues; participate in on-call rotation as necessary.

• Maintain runbooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system documentation.

• Organize planned maintenance windows and communicate impacts and downtime schedules to program leadership and Government stakeholders.

• Facilitate onboarding and environment preparation for Day 1 operational readiness.

• Contribute to a federal cloud hosting and enterprise architecture program that modernizes legacy applications for the Department of the Interior and its subordinate bureaus.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 10 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree with 8 years of professional experience, or an Associate's degree with 12 years of professional experience, or a high school diploma/equivalent with 14 years of professional experience.

• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

• Over 5 years of practical experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments (2016, 2019+).

• At least 3 years of experience managing Microsoft IIS web servers, including application pool management, site configuration, SSL/TLS administration, and performance optimization.

• Proven experience applying security configurations and STIGs to Windows Server environments in Federal or regulated settings.

• Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 security controls and FISMA compliance requirements.

• Experience with enterprise monitoring tools like DataDog, SolarWinds, Splunk, or similar.

• Familiarity with AWS cloud services pertinent to Windows workloads, including EC2, Systems Manager, S3, and CloudWatch.

• Proficient in PowerShell scripting.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator is highly preferred.

• Experience in IT environments within Federal civilian agencies is preferred.

• Familiarity with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation is preferred.

• Experience integrating Windows Server patching and compliance into CI/CD pipelines is preferred.

• Knowledge of AWS Managed Services and hybrid cloud architectures is preferred.

• Exposure to Agile project management environments, Jira, and sprint-based workflows is preferred.

• AWS Certified Security Specialty, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent security certification is preferred.

• Prior experience aiding or contributing to ATO package development or C&A activities is preferred.

• Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements is preferred.
