Chief Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Direct the comprehensive success of solid rocket propulsion system initiatives.

• Oversee large, multidisciplinary teams.

• Manage intricate systems engineering processes.

• Ensure technical execution aligns with budget and scheduling needs.

• Guide cross-functional teams through detailed design evaluations and qualification milestones.

• Confirm that final systems are manufacturable and adhere to technical data specifications.

• Keep attention on critical paths and resolve resource conflicts.

• Enhance schedule performance through effective task span-time management and alternative execution methods.

• Create and uphold lean technical scope baselines.

• Track cost performance indices and critically assess budget change requests.

• Act as the main technical representative for programs.

• Manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Present program materials, foster new business opportunities, and ensure customer requests remain within authorized limits.

• Offer data-driven technical alternatives to facilitate collaborative decision-making.

• Report to the Director of Engineering in the Strategic Systems department.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related engineering field.

• 15 years of engineering experience.

• Over 5 years of technical leadership experience in solid rocket motors (SRMs).

• Capability to manage the entire technical lifecycle of programs through design reviews and qualification milestones.

• Proficiency in leading cross-functional engineering teams and overseeing program milestones, critical paths, resources, schedules, and task span-times.

• Experience in establishing and managing lean technical scope baselines, monitoring cost performance indices (CPI), and handling budget adjustments.

• Experience serving as the primary technical spokesperson and managing stakeholder relationships.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the necessary level.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Preferred: At least four years of experience leading controllable solid rocket propulsion system projects with multidisciplinary teams of 10 or more.

• Preferred: Current DoD Secret Security Clearance.

• Willingness to travel up to 25%, including possible overnight stays near site locations or external testing facilities.

• Capability to lift, move, or carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
