This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the initial phase of concept development for spacecraft software-defined missions, including sensor and bus processing, red and black network routing, data storage alternatives, and reconfigurable digital architectures.
• Collaborate with customers to identify unmet mission requirements and convert them into new business ventures.
• Recognize market opportunities and advocate for internally generated concepts that expedite new product launches.
• Influence internal product and technology development roadmaps.
• Produce architectures, feasibility studies, technical white papers, and proposals that support capture initiatives.
• Reduce Size, Weight, and Power while enhancing capability and cost-effectiveness.
• Work alongside Business Development to create innovative technical differentiators.
• Act as a technology ambassador during customer meetings, industry events, and internal strategy discussions.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to convert concepts into viable, profitable programs.
• Keep track of competitors, emerging technologies, and market developments.
• Research commercial off-the-shelf technologies and envision adaptations or enhancements for space missions.
• Provide support for travel or off-site work as necessary.
• Execute other assigned responsibilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Over 15 years of relevant experience, or 13 years with a graduate degree.
• At least 9 years in advanced concept engineering, system design, or technology innovation for space systems.
• Proven experience in delivering radiation-mitigated and fault-tolerant software-defined or reconfigurable processing architectures.
• Familiarity with thermal and vacuum management, including knowledge of outgassing and zero-gravity thermal dissipation effects.
• Capability to independently initiate and lead technical concepts from inception to customer approval.
• Excellent communication skills, encompassing technical storytelling, opportunity framing, and roadmap formulation.
• Experience in establishing technical baselines for capture initiatives and/or leading proposal technical volumes.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% or more.
• Preferred: Master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Preferred: Experience with rad-hard processors, FPGA architectures, GPUs, or SDRs.
• Preferred: Knowledge in cybersecurity, including secure boot, cryptography, and hardened operating systems.
• Understanding of space transport layer networking/routing protocols such as SIPE, HAIPE, DTN, and Nebula.
• Expertise in data storage and compression trade-offs, including NAND Flash, MRAM, and ReRAM for long-term data integrity.
• Experience in DoD/IC space missions with eligibility for TS/SCI clearance.
