Certified Professional Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Prepare and submit accurate claims to insurance providers both electronically and via paper.

• Assign codes to patient medical histories, diagnoses, tests, and treatment protocols.

• Code final office visits and surgical/procedural operative reports that have been approved by providers.

• Review medical records and accurately code primary and secondary diagnoses utilizing CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 standards.

• Sequence diagnoses and procedures in accordance with coding regulations.

• Confirm the accuracy of claims and submit them using electronic medical record systems as well as paper claims.

• Input patient copayment details into the EMR system.

• Reconcile charges with the schedule list to ensure all charges are accounted for.

• Investigate claims that have been rejected or denied.

• Re-submit rejected claims promptly.

• Uphold strict confidentiality and precision in all coding practices.

• Refer to classification manuals and correlate with supporting clinical documentation.

• Engage with clinical, ancillary services, and medical personnel to gather necessary documentation.

• Deliver coding and clinical documentation feedback to healthcare providers.

• Keep staff updated on any regulatory changes and new information.

• Identify and take part in educational opportunities.

• Comply with professional standards, policies, procedures, and all federal, state, and local regulations.

• Utilize standard office equipment proficiently.

• Maintain consistent and predictable attendance.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is required.

• Current CPC certification is mandatory.

• Prior experience in medical coding is essential.

• Familiarity with proper billing methods, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding, electronic medical records, and medical terminology is necessary.

• Extensive understanding of coding for in-office and surgical procedures, including applicable modifiers.

• Advanced knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions is required.

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology is essential.

• Understanding of medical terminology is critical.

• Familiarity with EMR systems and Microsoft software applications is important.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities are necessary.

• Data entry proficiency and the capability to type over 50 wpm are required.

• Skilled in using a 10-key and performing basic arithmetic operations.

• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations is essential.

• Strong time management skills and the ability to work efficiently to complete tasks are important.

• Exceptional customer service skills are required.

• Must be able to work as scheduled, typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

• Must be capable of sitting and/or standing for extended periods.

• Must have the ability to bend, stoop, and stretch.

• Must be able to lift and move boxes and other items weighing up to 30 pounds.

• Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment.
