Billing Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +7 more states.

📋 Description

• Facilitate the prompt and complete collection of revenue for designated groups.

• Accurately code and input patient and charge information into the billing system.

• Monitor high-value claims from charge entry to payment.

• Address intricate issues with carriers and payers.

• Follow up on unresolved complex claims and charges.

• Examine and resolve payer denials, including appeals, coding corrections, and medical necessity matters.

• Aid auditors in reviewing documentation for medical necessity.

• Collaborate with the authorization department to address authorization challenges for complex procedures.

• Operate and maintain tracking logs for complex high-value procedures.

• Report tracking outcomes to management in the billing department.

• Communicate with Provider Service Representatives to resolve recurring payment issues.

• Act as a resource for the Billing Staff on complicated issues.

• Analyze and resolve billing discrepancies while ensuring accounts receivable does not exceed 10% over 60 days.

• Manage daily correspondence, claim status inquiries, denials, appeals, and re-bills.

• Address billing inquiries from patients and internal staff.

• Update patient records with changes to address and contact information.

• Review policy changes and inform the supervisor and charge entry specialist.

• Navigate proprietary insurance company websites to research policies and payments.

• Keep the supervisor updated on accounts receivable issues.

• Respond to requests from the billing company promptly.

• Investigate denials and submit corrected claims along with medical documentation.

• Review and manage claims in work-dashboard hold buckets.

• Generate, maintain, and update reports.

• Uphold confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.

• Assist in training new revenue cycle staff.

• Gather and review end-of-day reports.

• Regularly check work email throughout the day.

• Complete all mandatory training and in-services.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent with at least five (5) years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.

• Proficient in Internet usage and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on customer service.

• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, clinical staff, colleagues, and the public.

• Capable of working independently as well as part of a team.

• Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

• Capacity to respond with patience and understanding in stressful situations related to patient health and emergencies.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Strong organizational abilities.

• Proficient problem-solving and reasoning skills.

• Capability to meet established quality standards.

• Professional demeanor and appearance.

• Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding standards.

• Solid understanding of insurance processes and third-party payer guidelines.

• Knowledge of healthcare, medical specialties, and medical terminology.

• Strong desire to deliver outstanding customer service.

• Compliance with relevant organizational policies and regulations.

• High ethical and professional conduct standards.

• Commitment to continuous improvement in professional performance.

• Preferred: Two (2) years of experience using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

• Preferred: Medical Billing Certification.

• Reliable transportation.

• Ability to work on assignments at any company location.

• Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
