Billing Operations Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +41 more states.

📋 Description

• Manage and enhance the complete billing lifecycle across all retailers within the Instacart Marketplace.

• Ensure precise invoicing, adherence to financial controls, and punctual month-end closing processes.

• Take ownership of billing portfolios across key retail partners and various revenue streams.

• Execute daily billing operations with an emphasis on revenue recognition inputs and timely month-end closures.

• Develop and uphold billing policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality benchmarks.

• Address discrepancies and escalations in collaboration with Finance Systems, Business Development, and Revenue teams.

• Create dashboards, reporting tools, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor billing health.

• Identify and implement enhancements, integrations, and automation opportunities in the billing system alongside Product and Engineering teams.

• Enforce internal controls, audit standards, and contractual billing agreements.

• Mentor junior team members and scale billing operations to facilitate Instacart’s growth.

• Collaborate with Finance, Business Development, Financial Systems, Legal, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure accuracy, scalability, and ongoing improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in Billing Operations, Order-to-Cash, or Accounts Receivable within technology, ecommerce, marketplace, or subscription/SaaS settings.

• More than 2 years of experience leading cross-functional billing or quote-to-cash initiatives as an individual contributor, from requirements gathering through user acceptance testing (UAT) and launch.

• Practical experience with Salesforce CPQ and at least one billing platform such as Zuora, Chargebee, or Stripe Billing, along with one ERP system like NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle.

• Proficient in Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions.

• Basic knowledge of SQL for reconciliation and data analysis tasks.

• Familiarity with billing controls, SOX compliance, and revenue considerations like ASC 606.

• Proven track record of utilizing data modeling tools such as Alteryx to automate billing processes (preferred).

• Ability and demonstrated success in applying AI solutions to enhance billing processes (preferred).
