Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Complete a comprehensive full-time training program for new Investigators lasting 6–7 weeks, conducted both virtually and in person.

• Carry out in-person background investigations to assess the employment suitability of individuals needing access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Engage in daily travel while performing investigations.

• Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Execute record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Clearly and concisely document the information gathered while using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently while also collaborating as part of a team of Investigators and a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be accepted.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

• An active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Daily local and out-of-area travel will be necessary as required.

• A home office setup is mandatory.

• Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY) or remote travel lasting 14–30 days away from home may be necessary.

• Candidates must reside within 25 miles of the Warrenton city center.

• A valid driver's license and full-time access to reliable transportation are required.

• Sufficient motor vehicle insurance is mandatory.

• Strong typing skills with a recommendation of 40+ WPM.

• Capability to operate multiple computer programs simultaneously.

• Must be able to communicate verbally for extended periods and possess adequate hearing for in-person and telephone interactions.

• Ability to accurately record, read, and transcribe words and numbers.

• Proficient grammar and writing skills are essential.

• Professional interaction, long-form writing, adherence to attendance and punctuality standards, and attention to detail are required.

• High standards of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity are expected.

• Professional attire is required.

• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive in challenging or nighttime conditions.

• Must thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment under remote supervision.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills are necessary.

• Excellent writing and communication skills are required.
