Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Complete a comprehensive full-time training program for new Investigators lasting 6–7 weeks, both virtually and in person, to achieve certification in Federal Investigative Standards.

• Engage in daily travel to conduct in-person background investigations to assess employment suitability for individuals needing access to sensitive or classified information from the U.S. Government.

• Arrange and carry out face-to-face interviews with subjects, their neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Execute record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Clearly and concisely document gathered information using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently while collaborating as part of a team of Investigators and working alongside a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates with a minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor's degree will be considered.

• Must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Daily travel is required, both locally and beyond the primary work area as necessary.

• A home office setup is mandatory.

• Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY) or remote travel lasting between 14–30 days away from home may be required.

• Residence within 25 miles of the State College city center is essential.

• A valid driver's license and consistent access to reliable transportation are required.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is necessary.

• Typing skills must be accurate and efficient, with a recommended speed of 40+ words per minute.

• Capability to operate multiple computer programs simultaneously is essential.

• Ability to speak for extended durations and hear adequately for effective communication in person and over the phone is necessary.

• Competency in recording, reading, and transcribing words and numbers accurately is required.

• Strong grammar and writing abilities are essential.

• Ability to interact professionally, write for extended periods, meet attendance and punctuality standards, and maintain attention to detail is crucial.

• A high level of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity is expected.

• Professional attire is required.

• Capability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long durations, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions is necessary.
