Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Complete a full-time, 6–7 week training program for new Investigators both virtually and in-person.

• Engage in daily travel to conduct in-person background investigations to evaluate employment suitability for individuals needing access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Plan and carry out face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Perform record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Document and report the information gathered clearly and concisely using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently while also collaborating with a team of Investigators and a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates with four years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be eligible for consideration.

• Experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Top Secret clearance.

• An active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Willingness to travel locally on a daily basis and outside the primary work area as necessary.

• A home office is required.

• Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY) or remote travel for 14–30 days away from home may be necessary.

• Must reside within 50 miles of the State College city center.

• A valid driver’s license and full-time access to reliable transportation are essential.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is required.

• Proficient typing skills; 40+ WPM is recommended.

• Capability to work within multiple computer programs simultaneously.

• Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone for extended periods.

• Skill in accurately recording, reading, and transcribing words and numbers.

• Strong grammar and writing abilities are necessary.

• Professional interaction with others is expected.

• Capacity to write for prolonged periods.

• Ability to meet attendance and punctuality standards.

• Attention to detail is crucial while conducting fieldwork.

• A high level of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity is required.

• Professional attire is mandatory.

• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long periods, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions.

• Adaptability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment under remote supervision.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills are needed.

• Proficient writing and communication skills are essential.
