Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Complete a full-time, 6–7 week training program for new Investigators both virtually and in-person.

• Achieve certification in the Federal Investigative Standards pertaining to government background investigations.

• Engage in daily travel for conducting in-person background investigations to evaluate employment suitability for individuals who need access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Arrange and carry out face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Execute record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Accurately document and report gathered information clearly and concisely using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently as a member of an investigative team while collaborating with a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor's degree is required.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Daily local and out-of-area travel may be necessary as required.

• Candidates should reside within 30 miles of the Columbus city center.

• Temporary Duty Assignments or remote travel lasting 14–30 days away from home may be necessary.

• A valid driver's license and consistent access to reliable transportation are essential.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is required.

• Typing skills must be accurate and efficient, with a recommended speed of 40+ WPM.

• Ability to work with multiple computer applications simultaneously is necessary.

• Must be able to speak for extended durations and hear adequately for both in-person and telephone communications.

• Capability to record, read, and accurately transcribe words and numbers is essential.

• Strong grammar and writing abilities are required.

• Professional interaction skills, attention to detail, and dependable attendance and punctuality are crucial.

• High standards of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity must be upheld.

• Professional attire is expected.

• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long periods, and drive in challenging or nighttime conditions is necessary.

• Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment under remote supervision.

• Excellent organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills are required.

• Relocation assistance is not available.
