Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Dakota.

📋 Description

• Undergo a comprehensive 6–7 week training program for new Investigators, both virtually and in-person, to achieve certification in Federal Investigative Standards.

• Engage in daily travel to conduct in-person background investigations aimed at assessing the employment suitability of individuals who require access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Arrange and perform face-to-face interviews with subjects, as well as their neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Execute record searches at various institutions including police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial establishments, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Clearly and concisely document the information collected using a government-issued computer system.

• Function independently as part of an investigator team and collaborate with a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates with four years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be eligible for consideration.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret eligible clearance.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Daily local and out-of-area travel as needed is mandatory.

• A home office is required.

• Temporary Duty Assignments or remote travel for 14–30 days away from home may be necessary.

• Candidates must reside within 30 miles of the Grand Forks city center.

• A valid driver’s license and full-time access to reliable transportation are essential.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is required.

• Typing skills must be accurate and efficient, with a recommended speed of 40+ WPM.

• Ability to operate multiple computer programs simultaneously is necessary.

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak for extended periods and hear effectively.

• Capability to record, read, and accurately transcribe words and numbers.

• Proficient grammar and writing abilities are essential.

• Professionalism in interaction, attendance, punctuality, attention to detail, confidentiality, ethics, and integrity is required.

• Professional attire is mandatory.

• Physical requirements include the ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with remote supervision.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, prioritization, writing, and communication skills are essential.
