Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Successfully complete a comprehensive full-time training program for new Investigators lasting 6–7 weeks, delivered both virtually and in person.

• Execute in-person federal background investigations to assess the employment suitability of individuals who need access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Engage in daily travel while performing investigations.

• Organize and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, as well as with neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Carry out record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Document all gathered information clearly and concisely using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently while being part of a team of Investigators and collaborating with a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret eligible clearance.

• Active federal background investigation with T5 adjudication is preferred.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Must live within 50 miles of the Joplin city center.

• Daily local travel and occasional travel outside the primary work area as necessary.

• Temporary Duty Assignments/remote travel of 14–30 days away from home per TDY may be necessary.

• A valid driver's license and consistent access to reliable transportation are required.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is necessary.

• Proficiency in typing with a recommendation of 40+ WPM for accurate and efficient documentation.

• Ability to work with multiple computer programs simultaneously.

• Capability to speak for extended periods and hear adequately for both in-person and telephone interactions.

• Skill in recording, reading, and transcribing words and numbers accurately.

• Strong grammar and writing abilities are essential.

• Professional demeanor when interacting with others is a must.

• Capability to write for extended durations, meet attendance and punctuality standards, and maintain attention to detail during fieldwork.

• A high level of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity is required.

• Professional attire is mandatory.

• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions.

• Excellent organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills are essential.

• Proficient writing and communication skills are required.
