Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Successfully complete a comprehensive full-time training program for new Investigators over a period of 6–7 weeks, which includes both virtual and in-person components.

• Perform in-person background checks to assess the employment suitability of individuals who need access to sensitive or classified information related to the U.S. Government.

• Engage in daily travel while executing investigations.

• Organize and carry out face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Conduct record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical or mental health facilities.

• Clearly and concisely document the information gathered using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently while collaborating as a member of a team of Investigators and coordinating with a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must be able to obtain and sustain eligibility for a Top Secret clearance.

• An active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Willingness to engage in daily local travel and travel outside the primary work area as necessary.

• A home office is required.

• Temporary Duty Assignments or remote travel lasting 14–30 days away from home may be required.

• Must reside within 50 miles of the Baton Rouge city center.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation for full-time use.

• Must have adequate motor vehicle insurance.

• Demonstrated accurate and efficient typing skills; a typing speed of 40+ WPM is recommended.

• Ability to navigate multiple computer programs simultaneously.

• Capacity to speak for extended durations and hear adequately for in-person and telephone interactions.

• Ability to accurately record, read, and transcribe words and numbers.

• Strong grammar and writing skills are essential.

• Professional demeanor, reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, confidentiality, ethics, and integrity are required.

• Professional attire is mandatory.

• Physical capability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, navigate stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive in challenging or nighttime conditions.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment with remote supervision.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and prioritization abilities.

• Proficient writing and communication skills are essential.

• Relocation assistance is not available.
