Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Successfully complete a full-time new Investigator training program lasting 6–7 weeks to achieve certification in the Federal Investigative Standards.

• Engage in daily travel to conduct in-person background investigations assessing the employment eligibility of individuals who need access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Organize and perform face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Execute record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial entities, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Clearly and concisely document the information gathered on a government-issued computer system.

• Function independently, collaborate as part of an Investigator team, and work alongside a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be accepted.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

• An active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Willingness to travel locally on a daily basis and outside the primary work area as necessary.

• Must live within 40 miles of the Riverside city center.

• A home office setup is mandatory.

• Temporary Duty Assignments or remote travel for 14–30 days away from home may be necessary.

• A valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation are required.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is necessary.

• Typing skills must be accurate and efficient, with a recommendation of 40+ words per minute.

• Ability to operate multiple computer programs simultaneously.

• Capable of speaking for extended periods and hearing adequately for both in-person and telephone communication.

• Proficient in recording, reading, and accurately transcribing words and numbers.

• Strong grammar and writing abilities are essential.

• Must be able to interact professionally, write for extended durations, adhere to attendance and punctuality standards, and maintain meticulous attention to detail.

• A high level of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity is required.

• Professional attire is mandatory.

• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive in challenging or nighttime conditions.

• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with remote supervision.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills are essential.

• Excellent writing and communication skills are required.

• Relocation assistance is not provided.
