Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.

📋 Description

• Complete a full-time new Investigator training program lasting 6–7 weeks, offered both virtually and in person.

• Conduct in-person background investigations to assess the employment eligibility of individuals needing access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Arrange and carry out face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Execute record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Accurately type and report all gathered information in a government-issued computer system.

• Engage in daily travel while performing investigations.

• Operate both independently and collaboratively within a team of Investigators, alongside a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered sufficient.

• Prior experience in conducting federal background investigations is preferred.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

• An active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Daily travel, both locally and to outside areas, may be required as needed.

• A home office is necessary.

• Temporary Duty Assignments or remote travel of 14–30 days away from home may be required.

• Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Montgomery city center.

• A valid driver's license and full-time access to reliable transportation are essential.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is required.

• Typing skills should be accurate and efficient; 40+ WPM is recommended.

• Must be capable of utilizing multiple computer programs simultaneously.

• Ability to speak for extended durations and hear sufficiently for effective in-person and telephone communication.

• Proficiency in recording, reading, and transcribing words and numbers accurately.

• Strong grammar and writing skills are required.

• Must be able to interact professionally, write for extended periods, meet attendance and punctuality requirements, and maintain attention to detail.

• A high level of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity is essential.

• Professional attire is required.

• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for prolonged periods, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions.

• Capability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment under remote supervision.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills are necessary.

• Proficient writing and communication skills are required.

• Relocation assistance is not available.
