Backend Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage backend services that support cloud-native, AI-driven platforms.

• Deliver well-defined services and features independently while receiving guidance from senior engineers regarding larger architectural and design choices.

• Design, construct, and sustain backend services and features from the technical design phase through to deployment.

• Create services using Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.

• Provide internal APIs through gRPC/Protobuf and, when suitable, REST.

• Work with PostgreSQL relational data models, including writing and reviewing schema migrations and queries.

• Contribute to event-driven functionalities utilizing Kafka.

• Leverage AWS services in accordance with established microservices and infrastructure patterns.

• Employ AI coding tools with the necessary validation and supervision.

• Write automated tests and engage actively in code reviews.

• Collaborate with senior engineers, product teams, and US-based leadership to convert business requirements into functional software.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 3 years of professional software development experience, particularly in backend systems.

• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.

• Experience in building and maintaining services within a microservices architecture.

• Practical experience with a statically typed backend language (Java is highly preferred).

• Practical experience with a relational database (e.g., PostgreSQL).

• Familiarity with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) to enhance development speed.

• Experience using Git-based source control (e.g., GitHub).

• Proficiency with command line interface fundamentals.

• Professional working proficiency in English, both spoken and written, adequate for daily collaboration with a US-based team.

• Familiarity with a modern frontend framework (e.g., React) is advantageous.

• Experience in deploying and managing services on AWS is a plus.

• Familiarity with gRPC/Protobuf or another contract-first service design methodology is a plus.

• Experience with event-driven architecture and message brokers (e.g., Kafka) is a plus.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., AWS CDK, Terraform) is a plus.

• Exposure to designing AI-powered product features (semantic search, vector databases, prompt/instruction design) is a plus.

• Experience in HR technology, marketplace platforms, or other SaaS products is a plus.

• Prior experience working directly with a US-based team is a plus.
