Backend Engineer, Personalization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance backend systems that support personalization and recommendations at the scale of Spotify.

• Create infrastructure that facilitates the efficient retrieval, ranking, and filtering of personalized content.

• Establish platform capabilities that assist in candidate generation and represent both content and users.

• Architect reliable, scalable, and high-performance services to handle substantial recommendation workloads.

• Collaborate with engineers and teams throughout Spotify to identify needs and create reusable platform solutions.

• Enhance the reliability, observability, maintainability, and operational efficiency of systems under your ownership.

• Engage in technical design discussions and actively contribute to architectural decisions.

• Develop technology that powers personalized experiences, assisting listeners in discovering and interacting with content.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and maintaining backend systems in a production environment.

• Familiarity with distributed systems, APIs, data-intensive applications, or extensive service architectures.

• Comfortable working with systems where reliability, latency, and scalability are critical.

• Capability to independently manage engineering projects while effectively collaborating with engineers across various teams.

• Interest in the infrastructure that supports recommendation and personalization systems; prior experience in machine learning is beneficial but not mandatory.

• Passion for addressing platform-level challenges and constructing systems relied upon by other engineering teams.

• Dedication to writing maintainable code, making well-considered technical choices, and consistently enhancing production systems.

• Must be located in the North America region where Spotify has a work location.

• Capacity to collaborate within the Eastern Standard time zone.
