Backend Engineer – Insurance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia.

📋 Description

• Become a part of a scrum team as a Backend Engineer with a focus on infrastructure and DevOps.

• Take ownership of services from start to finish, encompassing API design, delivery pipelines, and runtime infrastructure.

• Develop production-ready services and RESTful APIs utilizing Spring Boot and Kotlin.

• Work with PostgreSQL, covering schema design, migrations, query optimization, and performance enhancements.

• Operate cloud services on Kubernetes, preferably with Azure AKS using Helm.

• Manage infrastructure through code with Terraform and configuration management tools.

• Employ AI coding assistants while ensuring high code quality.

• Implement observability and operations through metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting mechanisms.

• Maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices.

• Utilize linters and formatters to produce clean, readable code.

• Supervise changes through CI/CD pipelines to production, encompassing build, release, and rollback processes.

• Actively contribute to shaping the platform within a mature cloud-native team.

• Collaborate with industry experts, product owners, designers, and software engineers on client projects, internal tools, or in-house products.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a software engineer.

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• Strong proficiency in Spring Boot and Kotlin.

• Proven experience in building production-grade services and RESTful APIs.

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, query optimization, and performance tuning.

• Practical experience in deploying services in the cloud, ideally on Azure using Kubernetes (AKS) with Helm.

• Hands-on experience with Terraform and configuration management practices.

• Experience working with AI coding agents like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.

• Knowledgeable about observability and operations, including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.

• Experience in software testing, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

• Proficient in using linters and formatters while writing clean code.

• Strong skills in CI/CD practices, including build, release, and rollback.

• Solution-oriented and structured in working methodologies.

• Proficient in English.

• Preferred: experience in frontend development with TypeScript and React, knowledge of UI5 Web Components and component-based design systems, experience with service mesh or Kubernetes-based platforms, platform security, secrets management, cost optimization, LLM/GenAI integration, and a keen interest in modern technologies.
