Backend Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct backend data and ETL validation across platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and other large-scale data systems.

• Analyze and validate intricate CMS datasets, which include Shared Systems Claims, Final Action Indicator logic, Provider data, and Beneficiary data.

• Verify data from CMS’s Integrated Data Repository and OnePI systems for downstream workflows related to the Fraud Prevention System.

• Compare backend databases and outputs with frontend/UI applications as well as outputs from Databricks Unity Catalog.

• Perform query performance analysis and recommend optimization strategies.

• Benchmark data processing times and throughput metrics.

• Execute load, stress, and volume testing on backend services and data pipelines.

• Identify and escalate performance bottlenecks to platform and engineering teams.

• Collaborate with Business Analysts, DBAs, Developers, DevOps engineers, and Agile teams.

• Ensure adherence to CMS Testing Frameworks, SDLC processes, quality standards, and federal regulatory requirements.

• Assist with functional UI validations to ensure end-to-end data consistency.

• Develop, implement, and maintain backend test plans, performance testing strategies, and validation scenarios.

• Create and run API-based validation scenarios.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies such as Daily Standups, Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, PI Planning, Sprint Reviews/Demos, and Retrospectives.

• Provide support, mentoring, and share subject-matter expertise with both backend and functional testing teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• All candidates must obtain public trust clearance through the U.S. Federal Government.

• Candidates must either be U.S. citizens or obtain clearance via the Foreign National Government System.

• Foreign National candidates must have resided in the United States for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

• Foreign National candidates must possess a valid and unexpired passport from their country of birth.

• Foreign National candidates must have the appropriate VISA/work permit documentation.

• A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in backend data validation and performance testing in extensive data environments.

• Familiarity with platforms like Databricks and Snowflake.

• Experience in workload analysis, query optimization, and evaluating data pipeline performance.

• Proficient in using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Slack.

• Experience working within Agile, SAFe, or comparable software development methodologies.

• Ability to develop user stories, defect reports, test documentation, and acceptance criteria.

• Experience in translating business requirements, functional specifications, and user stories into backend test cases.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Capability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.

• Ability to manage assigned tasks independently, prioritize effectively, and deliver quality outcomes within set timelines.

• Experience documenting test cases and results in TestRail.

• Prior involvement in supporting Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) programs.

• Experience with visualization tools like Tableau or Grafana.

• Experience with security or penetration testing utilizing Burp Suite or similar tools such as Postman for API testing.

• Conduct Section 508 accessibility testing using JAWS or similar tools.
