Backend Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Enhance and sustain the Phoenix API that supports both the customer-facing configurator and internal administrative tools.

• Apply pricing and structural calculation logic based on engineering specifications.

• Ensure calculation and pricing logic is thoroughly tested.

• Construct and oversee Oban background processing for CRM synchronization, data ingestion, manufacturing file delivery, alerting, daily digests, and factory distance calculations.

• Integrate various third-party systems, including Zoho, Braintree, Microsoft Entra ID, AWS S3, and manufacturing systems.

• Create internal Phoenix LiveView administration screens.

• Collaborate with the front-end developer on API specifications.

• Perform code reviews.

• Oversee CI and manage releases across development, staging, and production environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of four years of experience in building and operating backend systems in a production environment.

• Proficiency in Elixir and Phoenix, or a robust functional/backend background with a strong desire to work in Elixir.

• Strong skills in relational databases, encompassing SQL, schema design, migrations, and query performance.

• Comfortable handling numerically intensive business logic, ensuring correctness, unit consistency, and understanding floating-point behavior.

• A habit of testing; experience in maintaining extensive test suites.

• Background in integrating third-party APIs, including REST, OAuth, webhooks, and failure management.

• Proficient with Git, participating in pull request reviews, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Capable of interpreting non-programmer specifications, implementing solutions, and addressing ambiguities.

• A proactive self-starter, able to take ownership, prioritize tasks, work independently, and communicate progress effectively.

• Must be available during team time zones ranging from UTC+2 to UTC+7.

• Nice to have: Experience with Oban or similar background job systems at scale.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of JWT authentication and single sign-on, especially with Microsoft Entra ID.

• Nice to have: Experience with payment gateway integration.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with static analysis disciplines, Dialyzer specs, and Credo.

• Nice to have: Exposure to construction, manufacturing, structural engineering, CAD, or physical-product configurators.

• An engineering degree is not mandatory.
