📋 Description

• Define and oversee the integrated clinical development strategy for Lilly’s Neuroscience Pain early-phase portfolio, spanning from discovery to Phase 2.

• Create governance frameworks and decision-making processes, which include go/no-go decisions and stage-gate reviews.

• Ensure senior leadership has visibility into portfolio health, pipeline gaps, and development opportunities.

• Align clinical strategy with long-term business objectives across Lilly Research Laboratories and the Medicines Development Unit.

• Propel full clinical implementation of the Pain portfolio utilizing innovative and accelerated development methodologies.

• Incorporate tissue biomarkers and diagnostics into Pain development initiatives.

• Synchronize clinical plans with business unit and Lilly Research Laboratories priorities, including Draft Launch Labels and Value Propositions.

• Outline external portfolio focus across priority biology, novel modalities, diagnostics, and academic partnerships.

• Establish areas for business development and academic collaborations within Pain.

• Assess opportunities based on scientific merit, strategic alignment, risk, timing, and unmet medical needs.

• Direct the execution and integration of partnerships and collaborations.

• Manage interactions with global regulatory bodies and governmental organizations.

• Collaborate with external medical and scientific experts in molecule development and clinical trial execution.

• Steer the scientific data disclosure strategy, encompassing protocols, study reports, publications, and regulatory submissions.

• Represent Lilly Neuroscience in external scientific forums and conferences.

• Supervise compliance with adverse event reporting obligations.

• Integrate early-stage Pain program strategy across Neuroscience while aligning it with business unit priorities.

• Drive consensus on governance milestones, go/no-go frameworks, and stage-gate reviews.

• Oversee portfolio-level risk assessments and scenario planning for early-stage pain investments.

• Develop strategy for the Neuronal Health emerging therapeutic area.

• Advocate for early portfolio Pain assets among cross-functional teams and external collaborators.

• Build, lead, and nurture a high-performing cross-functional team.

• Act as a senior role model and culture ambassador.

• Enhance capabilities, frameworks, and operating models for identifying, evaluating, and advancing Pain programs.

• Mentor leaders and teams on portfolio thinking, translational science, and trade-off-based decision-making.

• Promote collaboration across R&D, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Corporate Affairs, and Enterprise External Innovation.

• Counsel senior stakeholders and influence decisions through scientific credibility, insights, and synthesis.


⛳️ Requirements

• Medical Doctor with board eligibility or certification in a medical specialty pertinent to the role, or equivalent post-medical school clinical training relevant to the hiring country.

• U.S.-trained physicians must have obtained board eligibility or certification.

• Non-U.S.-trained physicians should have completed their education and training at a medical school that satisfies LCME standards.

• Over 12 years of progressive experience in analgesic clinical development or pharmaceutical medicine.

• Extensive therapeutic area expertise in pain, including chronic pain.

• Proven leadership in early-phase clinical development strategy and portfolio execution.

• Ability to influence senior leaders and shape strategic choices in complex, matrixed organizations.

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation abilities.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.

• A history of leading and influencing cross-functional teams at a senior level.

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

• Knowledge of drug development, particularly in early development.

• Experience in external innovation strategy, academic collaborations, or business development in neuroscience or pain.

• Familiarity with RNA silencing, gene therapy, and innovative delivery methods.

• Comfort with ambiguity and skill in establishing direction in evolving scientific domains.

• Proven track record of fostering alignment across R&D, Medical, Commercial, and Corporate Affairs.

• Experience utilizing data, analytics, and emerging technologies to shape clinical strategy and prioritization.
