Associate Distribution Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hawaii.

📋 Description

• Evaluate overhead electrical distribution systems utilizing O-Calc software.

• Execute comprehensive design and engineering calculations for both overhead and underground electric distribution systems.

• Assist with projects that involve pole replacements, conductor replacements, modifications for true-up, equipment upgrades, and transitions from overhead to underground systems.

• Conduct field assessments of proposed installation locations as necessary.

• Ensure that bills of materials align with design and client specifications.

• Create distribution projects using PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, or Pole Foreman.

• Execute calculations for voltage drop/flicker and pulling tension.

• Facilitate electrical design review meetings and document the minutes.

• Collaborate with project management and designers throughout the design process.

• Communicate and coordinate project activities with the supervising engineer, clients, and other stakeholders.

• Operate under the guidance of the senior engineer and report to the Distribution Supervising Engineer or Engineering Manager.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited ABET institution.

• 0-3 years of experience in distribution design or a related field with a utility or consulting engineering firm.

• Familiarity with reading pole loading sheets and entering data into O-Calc software.

• Proficient in using the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with meticulous attention to detail.

• Basic skills in written and verbal communication.

• Preferred: Experience with distribution design and construction standards specific to Hawaiian Electric.

• Preferred: Over 2 years of experience using O-Calc Software.

• Preferred: More than 2 years of experience with MicroStation.

• Preferred: At least 2 years of experience in material ordering using SAP.

• Preferred: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
